Gurman: Apple’s second fall event will focus on both new Macs and new iPads

Following Tuesday’s “California streaming” event where Apple will unveil the iPhone 13, Apple Watch Series 7, and AirPods 3, Apple has planned another event that will focus on the new Mac and iPad announcements, according to Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman.

Answering a question about the new Macs, Gurman tweeted that “there will be two events,” and said he expected the latter to introduce both new Macs and new iPads. In his latest “Power On” newsletter, Gurman said the second event will take place within the next “several weeks”.

With several Apple product lines set to see new additions this year, speculation had grown about how many events Apple would host by 2021. The forecast was further fueled by the fact that last year , Apple had organized three separate events in September, October, and November. However, 2020 was marred by the global health crisis, which saw Apple host digital-only events for the first time and the announcement of the iPhone 12 postponed until October.

In 2021, the pandemic has not been such a big factor for Apple, and the company is reverting to its September schedule to announce the new ‌iPhone 13‌. Additionally, the November 2020 Apple event focused exclusively on the very first silicon-powered Apple Macs, and while the company is expected to announce redesigned MacBook Pro models this year, these will share the limelight with the new iPads during the upcoming season. ‘a single event combined instead.

Apple is working on an updated version of the MacBook Pro which will be available in 14 and 16 inches. It will have thinner bezels, a larger screen, and a redesigned chassis. It will use a new “M1X” chip which is an upgrade from the M1 and will mark the return of MagSafe connectivity over USB-C. Apple is also bringing back the HDMI port and SD card slot. According to Gurman, Apple has also been working on a new version of the Mac mini that will feature an M1X chip.

As for iPads, a new, low-cost version of the iPad‌ is in development, and Apple has major changes planned for the iPad mini 6, which is expected to be updated with an all-screen design. Like the iPad Air, it won’t have a home button, and it might feature a Touch ID power button.
