Steam’s reviews tend to fall somewhere between “ useful resource ” and “ meme land nightmare, ” but they at least give us an idea of which games are enjoying the most positive sentiment on the platform. Now that we are nearing the end of 2020, it’s time to take a look at the top rated Steam games of the year. It might come as no surprise to find the excellent Hades at the top of the list, but there are a few hidden gems among these top rankings.
With 99% positive reviews after 105,009 votes, Hades is the top rated Steam game of 2020. The precise rating is determined by Steam’s 250 algorithm, which determines a game’s position based on the number of votes and the percentage of positive reviews.
You also won’t find traditional triple A versions in the top ten. It’s mostly made up of indie games including Factorio, Phasmophobia, and Risk of Rain 2. Even the big names are a bit non-traditional, like Valve’s VR title, Half-Life: Alyx, and the classic RPG update, Persona 4 Gold.
The full top 25 includes several games that have completely escaped my radar, including Helltaker, Townscaper, Ultrakill, and a host of popular visual novels. Check out the top 25 below or get the full list of the best games on Steam 250.
