US states with the most frequent Bigfoot observations
The elusive Bigfoot creature continues to be spotted in various parts of the United States. According to unpublished data from the Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization, Washington State is considered the most active region in the world by Bigfoot, with 2,032 alleged observations of Sasquatch. California, home to the world's most famous Bigfoot video, ranks second in the United States with 1,697 appearances.
The FBI released Wednesday documents from its safe on the bureau's brief investigation on Bigfoot in 1977.
The 22 documents show that the Bureau's Scientific and Technical Services Division examined 15 hairs sent by Peter Byrne, who headed the now-deceased Bigfoot information and exhibition center in Oregon.

"Could you, once and for all, make things clear, tell us if the FBI has examined hair that could be those of a bigfoot," says a letter from Byrne dated August 1976. "Please, understand that our research here is serious. This is a serious question to be answered.
Jay Cochran, then deputy director of the division, replied that if the office mainly examined criminal investigations, "on a case-by-case basis, in the interest of research and scientific inquiry, we make exceptions to this general policy ".
The hair was examined in 1977 and it was determined that they were of deer origin.
Byrne, now 93, told CNBC on Wednesday that he had not lost hope in the existence of Bigfoot.
