Halo Co-Creator Responds to Halo Infinite Beta

Reactions to the Halo Infinite Multiplayer Beta have kept pouring in as more and more people got to try the game over the past weekend. Marcus Lehto, co-creator of the Halo universe and designer of Master Chief, was one of those people who shared his thoughts.

Lehto said he had a “great time” playing Infinite over the weekend, praising his combat and map designs. “The combat is fresh but familiar and the game looks fantastic. Beautiful card designs too,” Lehto said.

Lehto’s stance on Halo Infinite has apparently improved over time, as he previously said he was “quite worried” about the state of the game after 343 presented his less than exciting campaign demo in 2020. But Lehto said he was impressed to see 343 listen to the comments and make improvements. That being said, 343 still hasn’t shown much of the Halo Infinite campaign, which is understandable at least for now, as the studio is focused on showcasing and testing multiplayer.

“As an artist and creative director examining the game as a whole, [I am] really impressed with where they’re taking it and how they’re going back to some of the original designs, ”Lehto said in July. “Yeah, I know a lot of the designs were from the Bungie era, but they take their own turn on it yet. They don’t just copy things verbatim. They make it unique to Infinite, and it feels like it. It feels really good. I’m not going to lie, I’m a little jealous because I think this looks like one of the best Halos that has been made so far.

Lehto’s latest studio, V1 Interactive, closed after its first game, Disintegration, failed to find an audience. More recently, Lehto announced some big news about his career – and he expects it to be divided.

The next Halo Infinite beta test begins on September 30 and will invite players to try Big Team Battle for the first time.
