COG considers: difficult start for 343 but expected hiccups

Halo insiders around the world braced this morning for the long-awaited first tech preview of Halo Infinite, which was only met with long hours of waiting, with a down Halo Waypoint and an empty inbox.

The preview was promised to launch on July 29 at around 12:00 p.m. PT. The problem is that in order to download the first version of the game, players had to get their codes either from the Halo Waypoint website or via email. The website crashed just as the preview was supposed to start and the emails could not be found.

Streamers either delayed their broadcasts like Greenskull or just started the broadcast to chat with the audience or play Halo MCC thinking the wait wouldn’t be long, like Ubernick and Naded.

Brian Jarrard, Community Manager at 343, took to Twitter to remind people that this is just a technical preview, the first of its magnitude and that technical issues are to be expected.

He tried to calm expectations and reassure the players that the issues are being actively worked on.

“As we’re all impatient and more and more impatient, just a friendly PSA, it’s a technical test on a different scale than anything we’ve done to date. Driven by production. Not one game launch. Things are progressing but there are many steps to be taken ”, Brian Jarrard said. “I’m concerned that people who can’t handle the unpredictability of this release schedule and get downright angry already have bad expectations during a technical preview. There will be hiccups. “

Infinite Halo preview

While Halo Insiders’ frustration is understandable, given the long wait to try out the new game after 6 years since the last release of a Halo FPS title. It’s also important to remember that 343 is releasing this preview as a courtesy to die-hard Halo fans, to try out the game sooner than anyone else and be a part of its development in some way. This is by no means to be received as an official launch of a fully ready game, as it is NOT even a beta.

The story is still in development and the preview will remain available until Monday morning once it launches, so please be patient with Team 343, you will have more than enough time to try everything out. Developing games is never easy, and a technical overview is just a technical overview.

The full game releases this holiday season and launches on Xbox One, Xbox Series X / S, PC, and Xbox Gamepass.
