Posing in a rainbow crochet bikini top and jeans, Halsey surprised the world on Wednesday with a pregnancy announcement.
Fans cooed over the unexpected maternity photos, taken by 21-year-old photographer Sam Dameshek against a backdrop of silk cloth.
“Surprise!” Halsey, 26, captioned the photos on Instagram.
The pop singer, born Ashley Nicolette Frangipane, grew up in Washington, County Warren. She is expecting her first child with boyfriend Alev Aydin, whom she tagged in the photos.
It’s not Halsey’s first pregnancy. She miscarried while on tour in 2015 and had her eggs frozen after being diagnosed with endometriosis.
“My rainbow,” she said in a tweet on Wednesday, her post and her rainbow bikini (and rainbow emojis) pointedly referencing “baby rainbow. heaven ”, a term for a baby who arrives after a previous miscarriage, stillbirth or infant death.
Aydin, a screenwriter, had only been tentatively linked with Halsey in recent months, but is sure to become one of the most viewed people on Google this week. In October, he was seen with Halsey shopping for art supplies in Los Angeles.
“I left my house once like the last three months and you guys know that because I got caught,” she tweeted Saturday, perhaps in reference to the Daily Mail photos of the art store leaving with Aydin.
Aydin (see photo below) shared her pregnancy photos on her Instagram Stories.
“Heart so full, I love you, sweetness,” he said in a comment on his post.
“I love you!!!!!” she answered. “And I already love this mini human!”
The singer, known for her chameleonic hairstyles and makeup, recently launched her own line of cosmetics, about her own. On January 22, she canceled it previously postponed Manic world tour, citing the risk to fan safety during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Halsey, a former Warren Hills Regional High School alumna, released the album “Manic” in 2020 and recently denounced the Grammys’ lack of love for her and other artists like The Weeknd this year.
“Without Me,” a single from the album, topped the Billboard Hot 100 in 2019. Halsey was nominated for two Grammys in 2016, for “Closer,” her collaboration with The Chainsmokers, and as a featured artist on Justin Bieber’s Grammy-nominated album “Purpose”.
