I have tried ALL of Halsey’s face makeups and here are the coolest products

Another day another celebrity turned beauty mogul – what’s for lunch, am I right? But, something struck me differently when singer-songwriter Halsey announced her foray into the beauty realm: About-Face. I was pumped. The artist isn’t your average star typing her name on a makeup line, Halsey is actually an enviable expert; famous for making her own glamor which has been featured on everything from album covers (including that turquoise speckled eye for Manic) to red carpet events and live performances. Anyway, she knows a thing or two about beauty: About-Face is unlike any other makeup brand (celebrity or otherwise) that I have tried. Perhaps it is the fact that the colors are carefully selected. Or, maybe it’s the fact that he taps into the artistic and cheerful element of makeup that particularly appeals to my soul at this stage of my forties. Whatever Halsey puts in her secret beauty sauce, it works. Read on for my thoughts on every About-Face product featured in the collection – including selfies, what to buy in each color, and what to ignore. At Refinery29, we’re here to help you navigate this overwhelming world. All of our market choices are independently selected and curated by the editorial team. Paint-It Matte Lip Color & Matte Fix Lip Pencil The first product I tried was the Matte Lip Pencil and Liquid Lippies. I’m constantly on the hunt for the perfect nude shade, and these pink cocoa undertones really spoke to me. For my olive skin, the Cradled Lip Liner is the perfect MLBB (“my lips but better”) shade, and I chose to layer it with the liquid lipstick in the shade Slumber for a brown lip inspired by 90s. I was shaken inside of me when I swatched those lip pencils; they’re creamy, pigmented, and look great on their own.About-Face Matte Fix Lip Pencil, $, available at About-FacePaint-It Matte Lip ColorI loved the packaging of these matte lippies. However, the formula really is the star here: it’s full coverage in one shot, and it doesn’t * actually * transfer to your drink (or mask!). Plus, a vampy red shade (Hush Tonite, from About-Face’s Anti-V-Day collection) garnered oohs and aahs from my colleagues at a recent Zoom meeting. FaceLight Lock Highlight Fluid & Light Lock Stick Have we reached the peak of highlighter? Probably – but somehow I still have room for just one more (or two, in this case). The stick formula is perfect for a level one strobe, but if you want to increase the focus, layer a few drops of liquid on top. My favorite shades of the bouquet are the champagne stick in Please Indulge Me combined with the liquid highlighter in Shaken Or Stirred.About-Face Light Lock Stick, $, available at About-FaceAbout-Face Light Lock Highlight Fluid, $, available at About -FaceLight Lock Highlight Fluid I tend to vibrate with liquid or stick highlighters as they tend to blend into skin more transparently than powder. A few drops of this shimmering fluid was enough to bring my cheekbones to the strobe city, and I might also consider mixing it into a foundation for a subtle, all-over glow.About-Face Light Lock Highlight Fluid, $, available at À About FaceLight Lock Stick I love the size and roundness of this stick, and the fact that I can just slide it in and mix it up with my fingers. The texture was similar to a cream powder and left a subtle shine that wasn’t too intense which I liked.About-Face Light Lock Stick, $, available at About-FaceLight Lock Powder & Light Lock Lip Gloss a tonal moment, so I chose matching shades when choosing from powders and highlighting brilliants. I applied the Lightspun shade like a bronzer and layered the Payton gloss (named after Halsey’s BFF!) Over the matte lip look in slide one. About-Face Light Lock Powder, $, available on About -Face, $, available at About-FaceLight Lock Powder I’ve tried countless highlighter powders, and this one is pretty solid. Having said that, of all the products I have tried, this is the one that I would be most inclined to ignore. It gave off a nice glow, but it was very shimmering – which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but it’s not my thing. About-Face Light Lock Powder, $, available at About-FaceLight Lock Lip GlossGloss: It’s back and better than ever! The About-Face formula is soft and nothing short of gorgeous. It comes in four shades, ranging from Shimmering Clear to Sugar Plum Fairy Pink.About-Face Light Lock Lip Gloss, $, available at About-FaceMatte Fluid Eye Paint These are probably my favorite products from the entire About-Face line. I love experimenting with eye makeup (see my previous adventures with Animal Crossing’s Colourpop collaboration), so these eye paints immediately begged for use. After watching this YouTube tutorial from Halsey herself (girl, fire up a channel ASAP), I chose a genius trick: to mix white with any shade to instantly brighten it for a custom color. on About-FaceMatte Fluid Eye Paint The possibilities for this magical trick are endless: mix it up for a color wash, or do what I do and apply it with a small angled brush as a graphic eyeliner. It’s pigmented AF, so no matter how you wear it, a little goes a long way. These are fully worth the $. About-Face Matte Fluid Eye Paint, $, available at About-FaceShadowstick Last but not least, there are eight awesome shades of Shadowstick, a creamy jumbo pencil that comes in a variety of matte shades and shimmering. Plus, a built-in pencil sharpener makes it perfect for creating stripes of color, precise lines, and anything in between. About Face Shadowstick, $, available at About-FaceMatte Fix Spray The bad news is that this product is currently out of stock. However, the good news is that once it’s back you’ll definitely want to copy this setting mist, which refreshed my skin and even helped minimize mask transfer. About Face Matte Fix Spray, $, available on About-FaceBlend Tool a minimalist. I like to use my fingers whenever possible to apply products – and, if I use a tool, I keep it simple. This velvety sponge offers the same mixing capacity as a Beautyblender, but offers an ultra-precise application since it slips on your finger. I mixed Matte Fluid Eye Paint in White Noise and Smoke Signal for an eyeliner shade to match my sweater, and accentuated my inner corner with Shadowstick in Oxide. On my cheeks are Light Lock Stick in Please Indulge Me, Light Lock Highlight Fluid in Shaken or Stirred, and Light Lock Powder in Lightspun. On the lips, Matte Fix Lip Liner in Cradled, Paint-It Matte Lipstick in Slumber and Light Lock Lip Gloss in Payton. How about a little more R29 goodness, here? Halsey just dropped her own makeup line, lip bar is now TLB Beauty – & at Walmart
