Hamilton's warning shot in the calm of Mercedes' departure

If George Russell had not come out to finish the 23 rounds by shaking the Williams on Wednesday, Mercedes would have ended a day of testing as the slowest team for the first time in the turbo-hybrid era V6.

Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas were serene at the start of the preseason and placed 11th and 12th on the time sheet. Bottas is 15th for the week, while Hamilton is 17th. Only the troubled Racing Points and Williams drivers, largely absent, were behind with a day of the first week of remaining tries.
