This morning, the Hollywood Reporter reports that Hanelle M. Culpepper, a former TV director and twice Star Trek: Discovery director, was chosen to direct the first two episodes of the new series Star Trek Picard.
Culpepper Discovery The episodes are "Vaulting Ambition" of season 1 and the tenth episode of season 2 "Red Angel". Counterpart, Super Girl, The flash, and Gotham.
Alex Kurtzman, who oversees the CBS Trek ensemble on television, said this about Culpepper:

I am a big fan of her work since she started Discoveryand she is the ideal person to introduce once again the beloved character of Picard to long-time fans and new viewers. We are excited to join our Trek family in this new adventure.

It's the first time that a director launches a new Star Trek series. The women made episodes of the franchise series – the first was Gabrielle Beaumont for TNG, and of course Travel Roxann Dawson led the episodes of VOY and ENT, and Discovery had several female directors – but until now each pilot episode of Star Trek was led by a man.
With production starting in April, the new Picard series is beginning to take shape. Earlier this week, we also reported that Star Trek: the new generation Veteran Jonathan Frakes will also lead the Picard series. TrekMovie will know more about the production in the coming days.
