This morning, the Hollywood Reporter reports that Hanelle M. Culpepper, a former TV director and twice Star Trek: Discovery director, was chosen to direct the first two episodes of the new series Star Trek Picard.

It's the first time that a director launches a new Star Trek series. The women made episodes of the franchise series – the first was Gabrielle Beaumont for TNG, and of course Travel Roxann Dawson led the episodes of VOY and ENT, and Discovery had several female directors – but until now each pilot episode of Star Trek was led by a man.
