Vice President Kamala Harris announced Thursday that the Democratic National Committee is investing $ 25 million to fight GOP legislation and laws strengthening voting requirements.
The new spending measure is part of an “I Will Vote Campaign” as the party heads towards the 2022 midterm elections and seeks to maintain the higher voting rate that occurred in the general election of 2020.

“This is the fight of the life of our nation,” Harris said at an event at Howard University in Washington, DC, a historically black university and its alma mater.
“I want to be clear that this is all voters… it is not Democrats or Republicans, but Americans,” said Harris. “We want to help you vote, and we want to help you make sure your vote is counted. And that’s because our democracy is stronger when everyone participates, and it’s weaker… when people are excluded. . “
The funds are expected to be used to increase voter registration and educate voters about local legislation introduced by Republican state lawmakers as well as changes made since the last time voters reached the polls.

The funds will also be spent on mobilization efforts to encourage the record number of voters who turned out in November to return to the polls for the primary elections.
The vice president did not say whether some states would be given priority over others.
Harris and President Biden also met with civil rights leaders Thursday to discuss voting in the United States, as well as criminal justice reform.
Democrats face increasing pressure to attack voting rights in the United States following the Supreme Court’s decision to maintain voting restrictions passed in Arizona.
Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito argued Arizona’s new voting rules were just “quintessential examples of the usual voting burdens.”
But Harris said Thursday that the 28 new election laws implemented across the United States served one purpose – “to make it harder for you to vote.”

A host of election laws were introduced in GOP-controlled states after President Biden’s victory in November 2020, and Republicans have sought to tighten restrictions on how a ballot can be cast.
GOP concerns intensified during the coronavirus pandemic when mail-in ballots and other practices increased voter turnout and, they say, the potential for fraud.
