Harry Kane, in full damage control, issues a public statement on the absence from training.

The Harry Kane transfer saga has just taken a huge turn. Kane, posting from his official Twitter account, released a statement addressing Tottenham Hotspur fans directly about his absence from training this week. In it, he expresses ‘hurt’ about some of the things that have been said about him on social media, and reiterated everything Tottenham fans have given him during his Spurs career.

Well. It’s definitely a statement, okay. It is quite clear from the tenor and the content of this message that the Kane brothers are now perfectly in control of the damage. This statement only screams a sudden hit on the brake pedal and a sharp U-turn, and the only reason I can think of for this particular wording is that it has become clear to Harry and his agent-in-law Charlie that ‘City are unlikely to make a serious offer for him this summer.

But you know what? I am still angry. I’m upset that Kane thinks posting a damage control statement like this will fix everything. I’m super angry that he’s talking about this his feelings and the hurtful things fans have said about him online and in the media, not the fact that he was, and probably still is, actively trying to force a move to the club most rich and the best in world football because he selfishly wants to win trophies somewhere else.

And you “never refused to train”? Oh really, Harry? So why didn’t you show up on time, fleeing the Bahamas for an extended stay in Florida, and why did the club fin you two weeks’ wages? It does appear that if it was all a misunderstanding about when Kane should return to the club, he would have directly and personally addressed it, IDK, Monday when he did not show up as expected in training. It doesn’t wash out, it lights up a whole fan base, and I don’t fall into the trap.

If City back down to a transfer and assuming someone like Chelsea, United or PSG aren’t interested, Kane will be with Spurs for some time to come. He has a lot to answer for, from Spurs fans, his new manager and his teammates. That statement isn’t exactly about him coming hat in hand to ask forgiveness – rather, it’s the same PR shit we’ve gotten from Charlie and Harry since this all started.

If Kane stays, I hope he is fully motivated by shame and scores a lot of goals because as far as I’m concerned that’s the only way for him to get my good graces back.
