Sports director Bob Scalise said Tuesday that the Harvard University fencing coach had been fired for violating Harvard's conflict of interest policy.
Brand had sold his house twice as much to a wealthy businessman whose son had been admitted to school and then joined the team. The coach received nearly $ 1 million in 2016 for his Boston suburban home, valued at around $ 550,000, the Boston Globe reported.

Jie and Brand have both denied any wrongdoing.
Douglas Brooks, Brand's attorney, described his client's termination as "unjustified and grossly flawed service to a loyal employee". Brook said Brand was considering legal options.

Brand has been the coach of the Harvard Fencing Team for 14 seasons, recording 306 wins. Since 2005, the team has produced nine individual NCAA champions and won the overall national championship in 2006.
