Has a man caught a mobile phone flying on a roller coaster?

A video supposedly showing a man catching the mobile phone of an alien in the air while she was riding a roller coaster became viral on social media on September 4, 2019:

The video recorded more than 1.5 million views two days after its initial release. While many marveled at the skill (or luck) described in these pictures, others were skeptical. Was the Internet fooled by another falsified media?

The video was taken during a ride to Shambhala in the Port Aventura theme park in Spain. The user of YouTube SirSammy 15 from New Zealand shared the movie with the following description:

I caught a foreign phone in the air on a roller coaster!

I was in Spain at Port Aventura on the way to Shambhala and I saw the person a few rows away dropping his IPhone X. In short, I caught him. This Russian mountain advances more than 130 km … was once the highest and fastest mountain in Europe … recently battered.

Some of the roller coasters at Port Aventura are equipped with video cameras to capture the reactions of these thrill-seekers. These images are then available for purchase at the end of the hike as a souvenir of the house. The Shambhala, the highest in PortAventura Park, is an example.

After the above video went viral, the New Zealand Herald contacted SirSammy 15 (whose real name is Samuel Kempf) to get more information on the incident. Kempf said that the person who hung up the phone had hugged him. And, as a thank you, the owner of the phone bought the above pictures of Port Aventura as a souvenir:

"He could not believe it, he gave me a big hug," Kempf told Stuff.

"The funniest reaction was when we left the roller coaster and you go down to look at the pictures and videos that they take and that half of the people there seemed to be watching our screen and then everybody started applauding and applauding when it happened. "

The owner of the phone bought the video to thank the Kiwi.

While SirSammy's roller coaster phone calls may seem miraculous, they are not unprecedented. Our search for similar footage has found two videos from the same roller coaster. The first, taken in 2013, shows a man catching a set of keys as he rides this roller coaster:

The other, also from 2013, shows a person who catches a phone:

We contacted Port Aventura to find out how often objects are dropped – and captured – when traveling from Shambhala. We will update this article as more information becomes available. This may not happen more often than usual on the Shambhala, but as it is a "videoride," there may be more evidence of these roller coaster captures.
