Hasan Minhaj had to undergo surgery to increase his sperm count so that he and his wife Beena Patel could conceive their second child.

The Morning Show actor, 35, opened up about his fertility issues during an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, telling the host that they actually had problems “for years” before become pregnant with their second child.

Before welcoming their boy, the couple struggled to deal with their conception issues.

“It put a lot of tension on the relationship,” Hasan said.

During the appointment, her doctor told her, “You have too much blood in there, it lowers your sperm count.”

The solution: reconstructive surgery for varicocele.

“If you don’t have this operation, you can’t have children,” Hasan said, remembering the doctor.

Outpatient surgery – which involves a small incision made in the abdomen near where the testes originally descended through the abdominal wall – was successful for the couple, who got pregnant just six weeks after.

Minhaj announced the arrival of her son last March on Instagram, sharing a snap of mom and dad cradling their little one.

In addition to the photo, he added a caption which read: “Even in these crazy times there are so many beautiful moments. Welcome to the world little guy. ‘
