Have you given up on WhatsApp?

[ad_1]

Between the changes to WhatsApp’s terms of service, the removal of support for older operating systems, and the ongoing privacy kerfuffle with Facebook, the owner of Whatsapp, on iOS, many people have moved from WhatsApp to other courier services – Elon Musk included. Today’s poll asks: have you taken the plunge and ditched WhatsApp (assuming you’ve used it at all)?

Changing your email app is probably the hardest thing to do online, other than maybe changing your primary email address. And a lot of it is because it’s not really up to you. We all have to use whatever our friends and family have, and convincing them all to take the leap with you is a Herculean task. (I still have to use Google Hangouts for this reason.)

Here in the United States, that means things like texting are still widely used as it’s the basic common denominator among anyone who owns a phone, but in many other markets, WhatsApp dominates. More recently, the tide seems to be changing – not surprisingly between the intrusive changes to the app’s privacy policy and negative perceptions growing around parent company Facebook. We’ve seen a strong push from privacy advocates and ordinary people to switch to services like Signal and Telegram, and people seem to be paying attention in ways they’ve never done before. .

So, have you moved from WhatsApp to something else? Feel free to share your recommendations (if you have any that might help your fellow readers) or tips on getting your friends and family to make the switch.
