Have you seen Shawtyeria? Family distraught to find missing woman as she celebrated her 20th birthday

Houston, texas – Community activist Quanell X is asking for the public’s help in the search for a missing woman who was last seen two weeks ago.

Shawtyeria Waites was last seen on July 25 around 8 a.m. outside an apartment complex in the 8900 block of Chimney Rock Road. She was wearing a pink dress and pink sandals. Waites was celebrating her 20th birthday with two other women.

The family, joined by Quanell X, held a press conference on Sunday to discuss Waites’ disappearance.

Quanell X said the woman met a man at a club and the man invited them to the southwest Houston apartment complex.

Friends told Waites’ family that they dropped Waites off at the apartment complex before heading to a nearby store to purchase makeup. When they got back to the resort, they couldn’t find Waites.

Quanell X said he believed Waites had been the victim of a crime and the man they met at the club never had any friendly intentions.

“This is not to denigrate anyone, but the young girls were dancing in a nightclub and they thought they might want to come here and earn a few extra bucks. It was a trick and a setup. They came and only one entered, ”said Quanell X.

The friends called Waites’ cell phone several times. At one point, calls started going directly to voicemail.

Quanell X said the apartment Waites allegedly visited was vacant and no one was living there.

The community activist calls on the mayor and the HPD police chief to make the case a top priority.

Waites is 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighs around 130 pounds. She has black hair and brown eyes.

Originally from New Mexico, Waites moved to Houston to attend Prairie View A&M University. Waites’ family traveled from New Mexico to Houston to search for her.
