Hawaii records 12 new coronavirus deaths, 474 more infections

Hawaii Department of Health officials today reported 12 new coronavirus-related deaths and 474 new confirmed and probable infections statewide, bringing the state’s total since the start of the pandemic to 714 deaths and 75,480 cases.

No further information was immediately available regarding the latest deaths.

The state’s official coronavirus death toll includes 542 deaths in Oahu, 82 in Maui, 76 in the island of Hawaii, eight in Kauai, one in Molokai and five Hawaii residents who died outside of the state. State.

The number of coronavirus-related deaths in the United States today is over 673,000 and the number of infections nationwide is over 42 million.

Today’s new number of confirmed and probable infections by island includes 297 new cases in Oahu, 36 in Maui, 77 in the island of Hawaii, 45 in Kauai, six in Molokai and 13 residents of Hawaii diagnosed out of state.

State health officials included probable infections in the total number of cases. Likely infections include people who have never received a confirmatory test but are suspected of having had the virus because of their exposure and known symptoms or because of a positive antigen test.

The total number of confirmed and probable coronavirus cases per island since the start of the epidemic is 52,646 in Oahu, 8,712 in Maui, 9,452 in Hawaii County, 1,997 in Kauai, 139 in Lanai and 202 in Molokai. There are also 2,332 residents of Hawaii who have been diagnosed out of state.

Statistics released today reflect the new cases of infection reported to the department on Friday.

Health officials also said today that, out of the state’s total infections, 7,725 cases were considered active. Officials say they view infections reported in the past 14 days as a “proxy number for active cases.” The state’s total number of active cases has declined by 257 today.

Per island, Oahu has 5,246 active cases, the Big Island has 1,201, Maui has 720, Kauai has 516, Lanai has five, and Molokai has 37.

Hawaii’s latest COVID-19 vaccine summary shows that 1,955,525 doses of the vaccine were administered through state and federal distribution programs on Thursday, up 7,749 from the previous day. Health officials say 66% of the state’s population is now fully vaccinated and 74% have received at least one dose.

Of all confirmed cases of infection in Hawaii, 4,036 required hospitalizations, with 35 new hospitalizations reported today.

Nineteen hospitalizations in the state’s overall tally are residents of Hawaii who were diagnosed and treated out of state. Of the 4,017 hospitalizations in the state, 3,244 were in Oahu, 455 in Maui, 276 in the Big Island, 34 in Kauai, five in Lanai and three in Molokai.

According to the latest information from the department’s Hawaii COVID-19 Data dashboard, a total of 324 patients with the virus were in hospitals in Hawaii on Friday, including 79 in intensive care units and 67 on ventilators.

The seven-day average number of cases for Oahu is 367 and the seven-day average positivity rate is 7.1%, state health officials said today.
