Hawaii Department of Health officials today reported 71 new coronavirus infections, bringing the state’s total since the start of the pandemic to 25,339 cases.
No new deaths were reported today, but on Monday, the health ministry added 60 more coronavirus-related deaths to the statewide tally which now stands at 401. However, officials of the Health Ministry this morning revised the total number of additional deaths to 59 after “data cleanup process.” “
Health officials discovered the additional deaths after a review of the department’s electronic death registration system, Health Director Dr Libby Char said in a press release. The deaths occurred between August and December. Forty-nine deaths have occurred in Oahu, seven on the island of Hawaii and three in Maui, according to a spokesperson for the Joint COVID-19 Hawaii Information Center.
The state’s official coronavirus death toll includes 320 deaths in Oahu, 53 on the island of Hawaii, 24 in Maui, one in Kauai and three Hawaii residents who died on the mainland.
The number of coronavirus-related deaths in the United States was over 423,000 today.
The statewide new cases of infection reported by the Department of Health today include 61 in Oahu, eight in Maui, one on the Big Island, and one resident diagnosed outside of Hawaii, officials said. Following updated information, seven Oahu cases have been taken off accounts.
Statistics released today reflect the new cases of infection reported to the department on Sunday.
The total number of coronavirus cases per island since the start of the epidemic is 20,578 in Oahu, 2,129 in Hawaii County, 1,634 in Maui, 178 in Kauai, 106 in Lanai and 25 in Molokai. There are also 689 Hawaii residents diagnosed out of state.
Health officials also said today that of the state’s total infections, 1,612 cases were considered active. Officials say they view infections reported in the past 14 days as a “proxy number for active cases.” The number of active cases in the state has declinedby 44 today.
Per island, Oahu has 1,200 active cases, Maui 303, Big Island 99, Kauai has 10, according to the state’s latest count. Lanai and Molokai have no active COVID cases.
Health officials counted 2,346 new COVID-19 test results in today’s tally, for a positivity rate of 3.03% statewide. The state’s 7-day average positivity rate is 2.5%, according to the Hawaii COVID-19 Data dashboard.
Of all confirmed cases of infection in Hawaii, 1,669 required hospitalizations, with five new hospitalizations reported today by state health officials.
Four statewide hospitalizations are residents of Hawaii who were diagnosed and treated out of state. Of the 1,665 hospitalizations in the state, 1,460 were in Oahu, 98 in Maui, 94 in the Big Island, seven in Kauai, five in Lanai and one in Molokai.
According to the latest information from the department’s Hawaii COVID-19 Data dashboard, a total of 89 patients infected with the virus were in hospitals in Hawaii as of Monday morning, including 21 in intensive care units and 17 on ventilators.
Health officials said as of Sunday, 70,095 vaccines had been administered out of the 154,150 received by the state. Vaccinations by county are Honolulu, 39,886; Maui, 10,195; Hawaii, 7,011; and Kauai, 5,328. The total also included 7,675 administered under the federal pharmacy program. State officials release updated immunization numbers every Wednesday.
