Hawaii Reports 1 New Coronavirus Death, 64 More Infections

Hawaii Department of Health officials today reported one new coronavirus-related death and 64 additional infections statewide, bringing the state’s total since the start of the pandemic to 485 deaths and 32,794 cases.

No further information was immediately available regarding the latest death in Oahu.

The state’s official coronavirus death toll includes 375 deaths in Oahu, 53 on the island of Hawaii, 52 in Maui, two in Kauai, and three Hawaii residents who died out of state.

The number of coronavirus-related deaths in the United States today is over 579,000 and the number of infections nationwide is over 32.5 million.

Today’s new statewide cases of infection include 40 in Oahu, eight in Maui, six in Kauai, two on the island of Hawaii and eight residents of Hawaii diagnosed outside of state, according to health officials. As a result of updated information, state health officials have removed two Oahu cases from the accounts.

Statistics released today reflect the new cases of infection reported to the department on Monday.

The total number of coronavirus cases per island since the start of the epidemic is 25,126 in Oahu, 3,451 in Maui, 2,711 in Hawaii County, 283 in Kauai, 111 in Lanai and 37 in Molokai. There are also 1,075 residents of Hawaii who have been diagnosed out of state.

Health officials also said today that of the state’s total infections, 1,191 cases were considered active. Officials say they view infections reported in the past 14 days as a “proxy number for active cases.” The number of active cases in the state has fallen by 13 today.

Per island, Oahu has 879 active cases, Maui has 171, Kauai has 80, Big Island has 60, Molokai has one, and Lanai has none.

Health officials counted 5,398 new COVID-19 test results in today’s tally, for a statewide positivity rate of 1.19%. The state’s 7-day average positivity rate is 1.7%, according to the Hawaii COVID-19 Data dashboard.

The COVID-19 vaccine summary in Hawaii indicates that 1,263,836 doses of vaccine have been administered through state and federal distribution programs to date.

Of all confirmed cases of infection in Hawaii, 2,163 required hospitalizations, with 10 new hospitalizations reported today by state health officials.

Nine hospitalizations statewide are residents of Hawaii who have been diagnosed and treated out of state. Of the 2,154 hospitalizations in the state, 1,806 were in Oahu, 214 in Maui, 119 in Big Island, 9 in Kauai, 5 in Lanai, and 1 in Molokai.

According to the latest information from the department’s Hawaii COVID-19 Data dashboard, a total of 56 patients infected with the virus were in hospitals in Hawaii on Tuesday, including 10 in intensive care units and six on ventilators.
