Hawaii reports 747 new COVID infections, 8 more deaths

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Hawaii reported 747 new COVID-19 infections and eight additional deaths on Friday.

The death toll from the virus now stands at 641.

The state’s health ministry said the deaths included:

  • Oahu woman in her 30s – hospitalized
  • Oahu man in his 50s – hospitalized
  • Oahu man in his 60s – hospitalized
  • Oahu man in the 70s – died at home
  • Oahu man in his 60s – hospitalized
  • Oahu woman in her 80s – hospitalized
  • Maui woman in her 50s – hospitalized

All of them had underlying health problems.

The new deaths come a day after the state’s health department warned that “we are still in the midst of the deadliest wave of the pandemic.”

The new cases bring the total number of infections since the start of the pandemic to 70,320.

In the past 14 days, 10,377 cases have been reported, which are considered “active” statewide. Among the cases reported on Friday:

  • 456 were on Oahu
  • 140 on the island of Hawaii
  • 100 in Maui
  • 43 on Kauai
  • 2 on Molokai

There were also six residents diagnosed out of state.

Some 64.9% of the state’s population are fully immunized, while 73.1% have received at least one dose.
