Hawaiian Airlines launched the world's longest and most regular scheduled interstate flight on April 4, with Flight 90, a 4,427-nm (8,200-km) stopover between Honolulu and Boston.

This distance eclipses what was once the longest interstate air route – Hawaii's 4330 nm Hawaiian Honolulu-New York JFK race.

Hawaiian scheduled the Honolulu-Boston flight for about 10am, the return flight Boston-Honolulu is scheduled for about 11.5h.

The first return flight left Boston on the morning of April 5, carrying a cargo containing about 1.5 tonnes of live lobsters, the airline said.

Hawaiian will fly five times a week with 278-seat Airbus A330s. The company described Boston as one of the largest US markets without direct flights to Hawaii, noting that some 250 people fly daily between Hawaii and eastern New England.

The Honolulu-based airline has strengthened its codeshare partnership with JetBlue Airways, which has a strong presence in Boston, prior to the launch of the flight.
