Hawkeye Women wins closer than expected in the first round of the NCAA

IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG-TV9) – The women of Iowa faced a bigger than expected challenge from Mercer (15), who played on her home ground in the first round of the NCAA tournament.

The Hawkeyes were able to hold 66-61 and face the Missouri or Drake Sunday.

Megan Gustafson, considered the best player in Hawkeye history, contributed with 30 points and 16 rebounds to set the tone for Iowa.

But Mercer came back with a 4-point lead in the fourth quarter. But Iowa managed to recover, finishing the match on a 9-2 run to win.
