Hawks abandon Barkevious Mingo after his arrest for alleged indecency with a child

The Atlanta Falcons released Barkevious Mingo early Sunday after reports surfaced that he was arrested for indecency with sexual contact with a child.

The linebacker was arrested Thursday in Texas. Arlington Police said they could not provide more information about the arrest, citing “the nature of the charges and the age of the victim.

Police say the 30-year-old NFL player surrendered and was released after posting $ 25,000 bail.

The Falcons have announced that they have terminated Mingo’s contract after his arrest surfaced on Saturday. The team said they were collecting more information.

Mingo, the Cleveland Browns sixth pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, played college football at LSU. During his junior season with the Tigers, Mingo played all 13 games and won second-team All-SEC honors. He had 38 total tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks and 12 quarterbacks, the team’s top.

After playing for the Browns, Mingo also played for the New England Patriots, Indianapolis Colts, Seattle Seahawks, Houston Texans and Chicago Bears.

Mingo won a championship with the Patriots in Super Bowl LI.

He signed with the Falcons earlier this offseason for a one-year, $ 1.25 million contract with a signing bonus of $ 175,000.
