Issa Rae Unsafe will return to HBO for a fifth and final season, the network said. The popular Emmy-nominated series aired its fourth season in 2020; a premiere date for its final season has yet to be revealed.

“Issa turned insecurity into an iconic form of comedy,” HBO executive vice president Amy Gravitt said in a press release. “The show is as incisive as it is sincere, and it resonated strongly with its audiences because of the deeply personal work that Issa, Prentice, Melina, the cast and the writers put into it. This talented squad designed a brilliant final season for Unsafe and we look forward to having many more stories to tell with this unique group of collaborators.

Rae teamed up with Atlantic Records to launch her own record label in October 2019. That same month it was announced that she was working on a new comedy series for HBO Max called Rap Sh * t, following a South Florida female rap group. She and Jordan Peele are also co-producing an upcoming film titled Chasm.
