HBO Max price to drop after leaving Amazon, HBO available through Fire TV

HBO Max subscribers can expect big savings. Deadline reports that WarnerMedia is offering viewers a halving of HBO Max due to HBO leaving all Amazon Prime video channels. As of today and through September 26, the cost of the monthly subscription is $ 7.49 for six months of HBO Max; all new and old subscribers are eligible for savings. The move to cut the price in half is an attempt to curb the loss of subscribers due to the departure of Amazon Prime, a plan that was decided two years ago.

However, there is good news for Amazon users, despite the expected loss of five million subscriptions. HBO Max, which is pretty much a fancy name for everything HBO has to offer, as well as hours of additional movie and TV content, can still be viewed through Amazon Fire TVs. This exception is because Amazon channels are still allowed to control streaming data to some extent.

A report was delivered by AT&T, parent company of WarnerMedia, providing subscriber details for the first quarter of HBO and HBO Max, which launched in 2020. Both had 47 million subscribers in the United States alone and 67.5 million. millions in the world. AT&T has since decided to report the linear and continuous digits as a single digit. However, the company’s 70-73 million global subscriber count is not expected to change due to Amazon’s departure. The company’s next quarterly report will be released in October.

Previously, HBO programming was supported by channels such as Amazon, Apple, Roku, and more, with the tech companies controlling the data and HBO receiving the subscription revenue. But now media companies are not “willing to give away” data. HBO Max had a tough launch experience in 2020 simply because Amazon Fire and Roku media didn’t distribute it. This resulted in a loss of around 100 million streaming viewers in the United States. CEO of AT&T, John stankey, criticized the tech giants’ control over their partner’s client in 2020 at a Wall Street Journal conference, saying:

“Bottlenecks sometimes occur in these trade agreements. We should ask ourselves: are these frictions really taking their toll and perhaps having market power beyond what is reasonable for innovation? ”
