Warner Bros. Pictures is shaking up the theatrical release model this year by releasing its entire movie roster simultaneously in theaters and on HBO Max for a limited time. Wonder Woman 1984 was the first to try this strategy, but the studio wanted to go much further by sending films like Godzilla vs. Kong, Mortal combat, Space Jam: a new legacy, The suicide squad, and more to the streaming service. Now, a new HBO Max sizzle reel teases all of the same day premieres ahead throughout 2021.
HBO Max Sizzle Reel premieres same day
Within this sizzle reel, you’ll find footage (or at least a title treatment) from all of the movies below, some of which we’re seeing for the first time. We have linked to full trailers for all movies where possible, and for all other movies we have directed you to articles with title information.
Interestingly, the final title card we see simply says Matrix, which may involve the movie getting rid of “the” and taking the simple reboot title approach without adding a number or subtitle after it. It is also possible that the final title has not yet been determined and is just a placeholder. Since the movie doesn’t arrive before 22 December 2021, they have time to understand it.
If all these films follow in the footsteps of Wonder Woman 1984, these titles will then be available on HBO Max for 30 days, and then the film will continue to air in theaters until the traditional theatrical window runs out before the film heads to 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray and DVD. On the one hand, it will be good to see some of these movies at home while going to the movies is not the safest option. But with any luck, as we move into the second half of 2021, we can make it to theaters without much hassle.
