STURGIS, Mich. –

The family of a nine-year-old boy accused of killing his mother in Michigan says he does not know what he has done, claiming that mental health played a role in the tragedy.

The court documents indicate that this boy faces two charges; an open assassination leader and a gunman.

Harley Martin, the boy's sister, says he does not understand why he can not go home.

"He does not know what he's done, he does not understand at all what's happening now."

It's been three days since Pauline Randol, the 51-year-old boy's mother, was found dead at home.

The court documents show that the son is accused of killing Randol with a rifle.

The family says that the son was adopted after being born to a woman addicted to methamphetamine. They add that the boy had mental health problems.

Kristine Kirsch, Chief Executive Officer of Community Mental Health Services of St. Joseph County, says they have about 280 children as patients. She also says there are only a few places to get help.

"I do not think there's always enough resources," Kirsch said. "We do not have as much as Kalamazoo, so access is a problem."

Despite everything, Martin says that she knows that, despite what he blames his mother, his mother would not want people to blame him alone.

"She would do it again if she had to, and that's the damn part," Martin said. "I know she's at peace, I know she still loves her and I know she would not want people to get mad at him."

Under Michigan law, a child under 10 is presumed incompetent.

For this reason, the St. Joseph County Juvenile Court makes no comment or comments on the case.

The boy's lawyer issued a statement stating, "It is important to stay focused on the future and the long-term impact of these proceedings and charges on a child of this age."

The sheriff of St. Joseph County stated that the boy had undergone a psychiatric evaluation after his arrest.

The boy is still being held in a juvenile court.
