People who fly to Rhode Island’s TF Green Airport were given the opportunity to take a free coronavirus test this weekend as the state seeks to prevent an increase in cases after Thanksgiving.

Voluntary rapid tests have been offered to anyone arriving at the airport in a roped area near the baggage claim area. The free tests started on Saturday and will continue until Monday.
The effort is led by the State Department of Health and the Rhode Island National Guard. Rapid test results are available in approximately 15 minutes.
In addition, Governor Gina Raimondo has put in place a two-week “pause” in plans to reopen the state, starting Monday, to curb the increase in cases. The shutdown will require the closure of businesses, including theaters and indoor sports facilities, and reduce the capacity of restaurants and places of worship. The state has set aside $ 100 million to help affected businesses and employees.

Rhode Island did not release new virus data on Sunday. The seven-day moving average of daily new confirmed cases in Rhode Island fell from 735 on November 13 to 850 on November 27, according to the latest data available from the COVID Tracking Project.
