In this week’s featured articles: The Google Pixel 6 series has its European price leak, Lens is coming to Chrome soon, Google Messages is gaining Material You vibrant colors, and more.
A new leak this week revealed that the Pixel 6 could cost € 649 in Europe, just € 20 more than the Pixel 5. Meanwhile, the high-end Pixel 6 Pro, with its 120Hz display and increased specs , should cost € 899.
Last year, the Pixel 5 cost significantly less in Europe than in the US, a fact many attributed to US models offering 5G mmWave connectivity. It’s possible that Google will have a similar arrangement of Pixel 6 models with and without mmWave this year, making it difficult to convert European prices to US prices.
Google has announced that Lens is moving towards desktop Chrome, along with deeper iOS integration in the near future. On the desktop, this includes the ability to search for a particular image or region of the page with a simple right click.
Meanwhile, Google Lens on iOS is mostly available through search. It is now integrated with the integrated browser of the Google application (for Discover and the search engine). The bottom bar will have a prominent “Find Images” button that makes “all images on the page instantly searchable”.
Over the past two weeks, Google Messages has undergone a relatively major overhaul, with Material You arriving in two stages. First, the basic app design has been changed from the old Material Theming style to use the Material You elements. A week later, Google rolled out Android 12 dynamic color support in the app.
On the home screen, you will immediately notice the pill-shaped search box and the rounded FAB rectangle. Both of these feature Dynamic Color, with the latter button being brighter than the top bar, overflow menu, or settings screen. Search sees some adjustments and the background is slightly tinted
With the month of October now underway, Stadia Pro has more free games to claim. Four of the initially announced games, including Control and Hello Engineer, launched as planned, but there was a surprise change.
In a last minute change, Until the end is no longer coming this month, but will be available for Pro on December 10th. It has been replaced by Mafia III: Definitive Edition.
In the news Wear OS, Google has launched a new application “Health services” for the “new generation” of connected watches. It claims to mediate between raw sensor data and meaningful statistics for fitness applications.
Google warns that “apps may not work if you uninstall health services.” We see it installed on a Galaxy Watch 4 with Wear OS 3. Meanwhile, the app description says it is “for the next generation of Wear OS watches”. That said, the Play Store says it’s installable on a Moto 360 running Wear OS 2.
