There are 36 confirmed cases of measles in the state of Washington – an epidemic that has already prompted Governor Jay Inslee to declare the state of emergency.
CHICAGO – Health officials on Thursday announced that a redhead had been diagnosed to an Illinois resident and that this person had arrived on board a flight to the airport Chicago Midway.
In a statement from the Ministry of Public Health, officials said the passenger arrived in Hall B on February 22 and was unvaccinated and contagious that day.
Local and state health departments said they were "investigating this isolated case".
According to the statement, people may have been exposed to measles if they were in Midway on February 22 between 9 pm and midnight.
The passenger also requested treatment at Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital on February 24 in the emergency room. People who were in the ER between 11:45 am and 2:15 pm that day may also have been exposed, as well as people who were at Northwestern Medicine's Delernor Hospital from 4:00 pm. -6h15 on February 24th and from 10am to 1pm on February 25th.
"These are the only known public places in Illinois where exhibitions have taken place," the statement said.
If you are infected, you may develop symptoms as late as March 20, 2019. Symptoms of measles include rash, high fever, coughing, runny nose, and red, watery eyes. If you develop measles symptoms, the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) recommends you to call or email an health care provider before you go in a doctor's office or at an emergency department.
Measles can lead to serious complications such as pneumonia and encephalitis. Measles is easily transmitted in the air when someone coughs or sneezes.
People can also get sick when they come in contact with mucus or saliva from an infected person.
