Stocks close down Wednesday on Wall Street, losses suffered by health care companies offsetting gains elsewhere in the market, reports the AP. Investors have hammered insurers amid fears about the potential impact on their profits from the health reforms discussed in Congress. Anthem decreased by 3.6%, Cigna by 3.7% and UnitedHealth by 1.9%. Qualcomm gained 12.2%, which adds to the 23% gain recorded Tuesday by the chip maker, which settled a dispute with Apple. The S & P 500 index fell 6 points, or 0.2%, to 2,900. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 3 points to 26,449. The Nasdaq lost 4 points or 0.1% at 7,996. (Read more stock market stories.)
