State officials sent a cell phone warning about COVID-19 to residents of 20 counties in Colorado on Sunday, urging residents to exercise caution due to the virus’ “serious risk”.
The emergency alert has been transmitted to cellphones in all 20 counties that have been upgraded to statewide “red level” warning status for the risk level of coronavirus, Micki Trost said, spokesperson for the Colorado Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management.
Health officials have struggled to keep up with growing demand for testing and contact tracing, as the virus swelled in a third wave this fall. In Denver, two test sites, Paco Sanchez Park and Denver Human Services East on Steel Street, had filled up by 10 a.m. Sunday morning and were no longer accepting new patients.
Also on Sunday, Jefferson County on Sunday opened a new large-scale trial site at the County Fairgrounds at 15200 W. Sixth Frontage Road in Golden. The test is free. Those looking for tests can make an appointment in advance or just show up; no insurance or ID is required.
The exhibition center test site is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
The county will also begin offering testing from a mobile van on Monday, which will make several stops in mountain communities in Jefferson County. A full program can be found at jeffco.us/testing.
