Heavy snowfall causes damage to Summerlin, southwestern valley

Heavy snow fell in the Las Vegas Valley Wednesday night and Thursday morning. It was a beautiful site for many southern Nevadians, although others had to deal with damage in their neighborhoods.

Residents of the Red Rock Country Club and other areas of Summerlin woke up to the damaged trees. The weight of the snow cracked some trees out of two, leaving the residents with the headache to clear and replace them. A tree near Durango and Warm Springs fell on a car.

Although trees were damaged, the roads in the valley remained generally clear.

Throughout the county, countless children have fallen asleep in the hope of a day of snow with the CCSD.

That was not the case – the school district held classes Thursday in the valley.

Nevertheless, many Southern Nevadians marvel at this rare day of snow that has turned the valley into a miniature North Pole.

Many local families may be facing a snowy day. From kindergarten to high school seniors, many parents told reporters that they were taking their work early or taking the day for their children so they could build snowmen and throw snowballs.
