NEW YORK – A helicopter made a "forced landing" on the roof of a high-rise building in New York on Monday, causing a massive emergency response, officials said.
The New York Police Department said preliminary information indicated that the helicopter had made a "forced landing" on the roof of 787 Seventh Avenue in Midtown Manhattan and that a fire had been extinguished. The tower is located just north of the famous Times Square.
During a briefing with reporters, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo told reporters that the plane was to make an "emergency" landing. The governor added that there was "no indication whatsoever more than that", adding that it was still at the beginning of the investigation.
A woman in the building told Fox News that she felt a boom, and then the whole building shook.
It was not known immediately what kind of helicopter was involved.
Videos posted by spectators showed emergency vehicles on the street, but no obvious damage to the skyscraper.
A law enforcement official told Fox News that evacuations were underway in the building.
