History was made during the virtual Sundance Film Festival awards ceremony on Tuesday night. Siân Heder CODA, a family-comedy drama about the hearing child of deaf parents, became the first film in festival history to win the Grand Jury Prize, the Achievement Award, and the Audience Award in the American Drama category. CODA also won a special jury prize for best ensemble. The film sold for a record $ 25 million at Apple Studios after a bidding war on Sunday. Blerta Basholli’s Hive also broke records in the World Cinema Dramatic category. Hive, who follows a single mother in the aftermath of the war in Kosovo, won the Grand Jury Prize, the Directing Prize and the Audience Prize in the World Cinema Dramatic category, becoming the first film in this category to do so. Other Tuesday winners include Summer Of Soul (… or, when the revolution couldn’t be televised), a 1969 Harlem Cultural Festival documentary directed by Questlove, which won the Grand Jury and Audience Award in the American category, as well as the animated refugee documentary by Jonas Poher Rasmussen To run away, which won the Grand Jury Prize in the World Cinema category.
