Most of the growth of Android TV over the past year comes from pay-TV operators who have taken advantage of the flexibility that Google gives them in the software. At IBC 2019, Google shared a new model that operators can use to quickly deploy Android TV to customers.

There was a lot of confusion about this new Android TV Dongle presented by Google to IBC this weekend, and we hope to clear things up a bit.
At the press conference, Google's Shalini Govil-Pai explained how Android TV was developing and, more specifically, its advantages for operators. While Google continues to develop its more than 140 operator partners, the company wants to make it easier for these new partners to market new equipment.
The image below, which was used by Google in a presentation, shows an Android TV dongle specifically designed and developed by Google. While it's exciting to see Google-designed hardware for Android TV, it's very important to note that this is not for consumers. On the contrary, this dongle is designed only for operators.
This is the "Dongle Operator" designed by Google for Android TV
The material is very basic, with space for the mark of the operator and an operator button on the remote. The dongle itself seems to have USB-C on board, and the remote also offers a dedicated Google Assistant button. There is a quad-core processor under the hood with dual-band WiFi and Bluetooth 4.2.
Apparently, Google has also developed the manufacturing logistics of this device with Askey to allow operators to quickly customize the interface according to their needs. Popular services are pre-certified (probably Netflix and others) and Google mentions that it is set for 3 years of future software updates, also provided by Google itself.
In addition to the operator dongle, Google also introduced a hybrid-STB reference model, shown below. This board is ready for production with an Amlogic processor and is designed to help set a standard for future upgrades. This design also includes a Bluetooth remote, but the operators are almost halfway to the finished product. Nevertheless, compared to the dongle, it offers more flexibility for the final material design.
It is a reference design hybrid-STB ready for use for Android TV operators.
