Although Blizzard has not announced anything about a remastered version of Diablo 2, Indoflaven, a member of Reddit, has experimented with some artificial intelligence techniques and shared a few screenshots, showing what a modern remasterer might look like of this role play.
Indoflaven used the Manga109 model for ESRGAN to improve these screenshots (their initial resolution being 1024 × 768). The end result is amazing and gives Diablo 2 a clean, crisp look.
Unfortunately, Indoflaven did not improve the textures themselves to provide a package of HD textures. According to the moderators, Diablo 2 is notoriously difficult to modify for the moment, so we will never see such an ESRGAN pack.
Nevertheless, these screenshots have a nice retro appearance, so we decided to share them.
According to some rumors, Blizzard could work on an official remasterer for Diablo 2, but nothing has been confirmed yet. Nevertheless, and if such remastering is available, we can at least hope that it will be as good as these screenshots.
