Here's what the next 3.0 patch of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate could potentially bring to the table and the reasons for its anticipation

It's been four months since Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is out. We already know that the game needs to be updated again – version 3.0 – by April. In other words, the patch can be dropped any day now.

As everyone can imagine, this upcoming update is eagerly awaited. In the past, Nintendo has dropped small nuggets of hints about the content of version 3.0.

On April 15, 2019, Reggie Fils-Aime will retire as President and Chief Operating Officer of Nintendo of America. According to rumors, he would participate in a game of Nintendo Direct that would reveal new details on the patch before that date.

The last release of Nintendo Direct took place on February 13, 2019. Considering that the departure of Fils-Aime is a special occasion and that we are waiting for a new update later this month, the moment seems plausible.

Not much has been shown for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate on this latest Nintendo Direct, but that's where we first learned that this 3.0 update was coming. "What we add," asked the narrator of the presentation. "You just have to wait to find out."

Nevertheless, the community speculated on the little things shown during this sequence.

What do we know about Joker in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate? Currently, not much.

Back to the camera, we only saw his landing and crouching animations. No information on his game has been revealed so far.

We know that Joker is supposed to be released by the end of April. It is extremely likely that Joker will ship with the 3.0 update.

This is all the more logical as Piranha Plant was suddenly made available with the patch of version 2.0. This creates a precedent in which a new character will be available for download each time the highest part of the version number is updated.

Assuming that Joker is available for download on the same day as Patch 3.0 later this month, it is possible that we will discover the next fighter's identity.

At the present time, we know that there will be at least six DLC characters that will be added to the launch list of 74 characters. The Piranha factory is one of them, but it is not included in the hunting pass.

As we already know Joker of Persona 5, it means that there are four unannounced characters left. To entice players to buy the pass, Nintendo could have only one character identified at a time until February of 2020.

Remember that Joker was revealed shortly before the official release of the game. If Joker is about to come out, the fashionable train may well roll in the foreseeable future.

Going from version 1.X.X to version 2.0.0 was the biggest game balance fix to date. In fact, it was the first time that Nintendo has released detailed release notes for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

More than likely, this 3.0 update will feature a number of improvements and nerves for most current players of the game. Given that this is not going to be the main focus of the update as new content.

The meta has been developing for four months now. It is likely that the Smash Balance team has been monitoring game changes to put in place, either competitively or occasionally.

We could witness major changes in the list after three live versions. This did not really happen with version 2.0, but the possibility is still there.

In the last presentation, Nintendo showed us two fuzzy screens. It was a little daring considering the fact that the community was able to deduce a "Spirits" mode the last time.

The theory is that Nintendo reintroduces the Home Run Contest and Stage Builder modes.

Since Super Smash Bros. Melee, the players were able to compete to hit the sandbag at the furthest distance with the baseball bat element with only 10 seconds to accumulate the damage. The absence of this mode was felt by the community.

Meanwhile, Super Smash Bros. Brawl introduced the Stage Builder mode. Players were allowed to build their own scenes to confront their friends.

Bringing these modes back will certainly increase the number of simple ways to play.
