Apple has officially announced the dates for its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), which will again be an exclusively online event. The highly anticipated event will take place June 7-11, in about two months.
As in the past, developers and consumers alike will get a glimpse into the future of iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS, and tvOS. This year, we expect Apple to unveil iOS 15 along with new features to come in the next version of macOS. At last year’s event, Apple announced the transition from Mac to Apple Silicon, so expect that to take over.
“We’re working to make WWDC 21 our biggest and best yet, and we’re excited to offer Apple developers new tools to help them build apps that change the way we live, work and live. play, ”said Susan Prescott, vice president of Apple. global developer relations and corporate marketing and education.
Rumors surrounding iOS 15 have been surprisingly light over the past few months. Generally, we have an idea of what to expect for WWDC, but this year we haven’t heard what new features Apple is working on. We may see Apple tweaking the design to more closely match the look of macOS, and also introduce new features in Messages, Music, and more.
What’s more mysterious is whether Apple will introduce new hardware at WWDC 21. The company tends to focus on software, although we did see some new hardware announced at the event, including the new one. Mac Pro in 2019. Apple is reportedly working on new iPad Pro, MacBook, and iMac. We’re also still waiting for the company to unveil AirTags, a tracking device that will rival Tile.
The invitation to WWD 21 could also contain a clue as to what Apple has planned. The Memoji character looking at the computer screen is reminiscent of Apple’s Craig Federighi opening the new M1 MacBook Air. But the glasses – and we admit it’s overkill – might tease the company’s AR headset, which we’ve heard a lot about in recent months.
“We love bringing our developers together every year at WWDC to learn about our latest technologies and connect them with Apple engineers,” Prescott said.
