When it comes to the great iOS vs. Android debate, Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates knows which side he’s on.
According to 9to5Google, Gates shared his preferences in a recent audio-only interview through the Clubhouse app. It is perhaps not surprising that it is strongly associated with Android.
Gates told reporter Andrew Ross Sorkin and Clubhouse co-founder Paul Davidson that after proclaiming he preferred Android in the past, nothing has changed. Gates prefers the more open nature of the Android ecosystem because it’s more “flexible” about how the software interfaces with the operating system.
“I actually use an Android phone,” Gates told Sorkin. “Because I want to keep track of everything, I often play iPhones, but the one I wear happens to be Android. Some Android makers pre-install Microsoft software in a way that makes it easier for me. are more flexible about how the software connects to the operating system. So that’s what I got used to. In 2019, Gates admitted that the way he ran Microsoft’s own mobile phone division was his “biggest mistake.” Microsoft ended up letting Google turn Android into the iPhone’s only real rival. Microsoft missed a $ 400 billion market at the time, which Gates deeply regrets. In 2017, however, it went ahead and adopted an Android phone.
During the interview, Davidson indicated that an Android version of Clubhouse may be on the way. He called it a “superior feature,” which could mean that the Clubhouse iPhone could wear off soon.
