Bill Gates said he prefers Android over iPhone because of its preinstalled Microsoft software and flexibility.
Gates spoke to Andrew Sorkin in an interview at the Clubhouse earlier this week, as reported by iMore:
In an interview with CNBC and NY Times reporter Andrew Ross Sorkin, Gates spoke about various issues including Bitcoin, the pandemic, and the age-old issue, Android or iPhone. Of course, people realized Gates had an iPhone due to the fact that he was on Clubhouse, an iOS-only platform.
From a YouTube recording, the interview opens with Sorkin describing how the immediate reaction to news of the Gates Clubhouse appearance was “Bill Gates has an iPhone?”.
In response, Gates said, “I actually use an Android phone,” but I played with iPhones because he liked to keep track of everything.
When asked if it was “a religious thing,” Gates confirmed he preferred Android because some vendors preinstall Microsoft software on phones. He also said he preferred the way Android is more flexible in the way the software connects to the operating system, so he’s more used to using Android. He said, however, that he had a lot of friends who used iPhones and that there was “no purity” there.

Gates also commented on the rise of Bitcoin, warning of its environmental impact and saying he chose not to invest any money in it. He also spoke about the pandemic and even the Netflix show he was binge watching. Lupine, if you are interested.
