DualSense Controller PS5 PlayStation 5

Have you wondered why the PlayStation 5’s DualSense controller doesn’t have the usual colors of blue, red, green, and pink on its face buttons? The X, Circle, Triangle and Square buttons are synonymous with the PlayStation brand, which has appeared on every Sony controller since the very beginning. In addition to these famous shapes, buttons have always been color coded – until PS5, of course.

So why are they all grayed out on the new controller? PlayStation Senior Artistic Director Yujin Morisawa gives a simple explanation in an interview with the Washington Post.

“Yes, except for the special editions, we’ve always used these colors,” he tells the publication. “For the PlayStation 5, we tried to eliminate what was already there. I wanted to simplify it and make it universal, ”says Morisawa.

He adds that the forms themselves “already [show] what the button is going to be “, and colors aren’t really needed, hence the one note solution on PS5.

While we love the colorful buttons, we’ve also gotten used to seeing the simple gray versions at this point. On the PS5 pad, which itself is mostly white, it appears to be the best fit aesthetically. Who knows, however; maybe Sony will bring back the colorful shapes when it introduces other colorful controllers in the future. Do you like monochrome face buttons or do you prefer them to retain their colors? Tell us in the comments section below.
