During the last day, you may have noticed that many of your Facebook posts groups have switched their settings to "Secret" for no apparent reason. This may be to prevent the attention of a particular virulent group from interfering with other communities only for the purpose of banning them.

according to KnowYourMeme, several public Facebook groups were banned after the membership of only one member and began to overwhelm them with non-standard images, then to report the groups to ban them. Most of the target groups seem to be even shitposting groups, one of the most important being Crossovers Nobody Asked For, which has hundreds of thousands of members and has not come back at the time of writing.

Supposedly, it is the work of a group called the Indonesian Notification Commission, or at least one person associated with them. Target groups are no longer accessible, this is difficult to confirm. Others claim that the former leader was the one who did most of the reporting.

Whether it's absolutely true or rumored, many group administrators have changed their privacy settings to "Secret" in response. When a group becomes secretive, it means that they can not be found by public research, which allows them to be filtered efficiently from anyone who is not already a member. The problem is that you can only change your settings, according to Facebook rules, once every 28 days, and you only have 24 hours to edit them once they have been modified. In other words, these groups could become dark, so to speak. a month just to avoid this problem.

Facebook does not exactly discern who to ban, and in that case I can not say I blame them. Given the proliferation of negative content on Facebook every day, I would probably ban first and ask questions later. I do not want to blame the directors of the group – prevention is better than cure.

Facebook users have reacted somewhat dubiously. In particular, they named the apparent leader of this group, whose name we will not repeat here, but who, according to users, was directly involved in group closures. An apology letter from this person is doing the trick, in which he says it's because he's done it to address those same groups for hate speech and anti-religious messages.

Update (11:30 am, May 17, 2019): A Facebook spokesman told TNW he realized that the broken content posted to many groups came from people who intended to sabotage said groups, and as such, he brings back those that were deleted as a result of this incident . The company did not specify who was responsible.

We removed several Facebook groups after detecting content that violated our policies. Since then, we have discovered that this content has been posted to sabotage legitimate and non-violent groups. We are working to restore the affected groups and prevent this from happening again.
