TennoCon, the official annual convention devoted exclusively to Warframe, is taking place this weekend – and although we are certain to have more news of the series later in the day, we have already received the first big news. In a surprise appearance at a panel, developer Digital Extremes released images of the next two upcoming Warframes for the online title – and even if one of them has already been seen, the other is brand new
The all-new Warframe, which we have not even seen so far, is named after Grendel – and you can see it in the photo above. Unfortunately, the Digital Extremes speakers did not reveal much information about the new Warframes, so we have only guesswork.
The name Grendel suggests a monster, because it is the name of the creature that opposes the hero Beowulf in the old tale. He is described as "a creature of darkness, exiled from the happiness and cursed of God, destroyer and devourer of our human race". Although this is probably a bit extreme for this particular Warframe, it seems to be quite powerful.
The photo that Digital Extremes showed on the panel had Grendel surrounded by the bodies of his enemies, so he's clearly not a friend. The Warframe also seems to be taking a sumo stance and could well be a tank-like setting in the style of Inaros, Rhino and Valkyr. Hopefully we'll know more as the day progresses.

As for the second frame that the developer presented alongside Grendel, it was the frame previously called Running Man – and now bears the official name Gauss. As it seems to be based on speed, the frame will probably work a bit like the Agile Volt. The video above (which aired on a stream earlier this year) shows Gauss moving at incredible speed on the battlefield, although the presenter noted at the time that he was "subject to balance".

We will have more information on the 2019 TennoCon and all that it reveals about Warframe later in the day. At the very least, Empyrean's expansion will be well displayed and it is hoped that it will come with a release date as well.
