On Ree Drummond’s Food Network The pioneer woman, viewers have watched her children grow up over the nine years of her show – and now she has a new addition to the family.

In an excerpt from his next essay book, Frontier Follies, Drummond introduces his adopted son, Jamar, who has lived on their Oklahoma ranch for a year and a half.

“I haven’t written or spoken much about him much, because on the one hand, the state agency that manages the placement has strict rules against posting children in foster care on social media, what I understand, ”she explains. “Plus, I never wanted to subject Jamar to more attention than he wanted or needed until I had a chance to settle down and orient himself with us.

This week, Joy shared a photo of Gideon with his cousins ​​Duggar, and it looks like he couldn't be more excited to play with his family.  This little guy is always smiling!

Because Jamar is now 18, Drummond says state restrictions no longer apply, adding that “he told me he’s had enough of feeling like we’re trying to hide him from the world.”

The kitchen star, who is also a mom to Alex, 23, Paige, 21, Bryce, 18, and Todd, 16, says hospitality was not something she and her husband Ladd had considered previously, but decided to do so after Ladd met Jamar during high school football practice in their hometown of Pawhuska. “Jamar’s circumstances presented themselves to us in a way we could not ignore,” Ree writes.

Ree says Jamar has since become “an inextricable part of our wacky family” and details an ATV accident on their ranch that left him bedridden for six weeks. “It made us all have to be really close and quick,” she says.

Jamar has since recovered and is “back to full functionality,” according to Ree, and is looking forward to the future. “Thanks to a ton of determination, Jamar has excelled in football, and he’s already received a few college offers, with more sure to come!”

“I am proud of the child and can’t wait to see where life takes him,” she adds. “I’ll be in the stands to cheer him on.”
