Emoni Bates, the No.1 high school basketball prospect, is upgrading to the 2021 class and could potentially enroll in college for the coming season.
Bates announced on Instagram that he had only four options left: Michigan State, from which he withdrew in the spring, Oregon, Memphis and the G League.
Bates, a small 6-foot-9 forward from Ypsilanti, Mich., Initially enlisted in Michigan state last summer before reopening his recruiting in April. After an inconsistent school season at Ypsi Prep, Mich., Bates performed well with the base program for the team final in the spring, then recovered as one of high school basketball’s top scorers with Bates Fundamental. on the Nike EYBL circuit in July. Bates also scored 35 points in late July in the Nike Peach Jam consolation bracket in late July, shooting 13 for 24 from the field and finishing with six rebounds and three assists.
Jalen Duren, the No.2 prospect in 2022, is also strongly considering a reclassification in 2021. Duren is expected to make his decision on Friday, and he is in Memphis, Miami, Kentucky, the G League and the NBL.
