"It's the economy, it's still the economy, but that's not the only reason we should elect a president or, in this case, retire," said Clinton to applaud when an "Evening with the Clintons" in Los Angeles, California.

According to data from the Federal Bureau of Labor Statistics, the last time the unemployment rate was as low as 4% or less was from December 1965 to January 1970.

Clinton continued, "Yes, maybe the economy is in full swing, but suddenly you have tens of millions of Americans who are a lot less safe because their health care is gone . "

The comments come in the wake of CNN's new polls last week, according to which 56 percent of Americans approve of the treatment of the economy by President Donald Trump.

The previous high water mark for Trump on this issue came in March 2017, with 55% approval.

"A good economy is not the ultimate solution of elections," said Princeton political historian Julian Zelizer, about the 1960s and today. "It was a time when the economy was still doing very well – even in many ways today."

Clinton, the Democratic presidential candidate for 2016, also took into account the Mueller report, reiterating her comments after the publication of a redacted version of the special council's findings.

"The Mueller report could not be clearer, the Russians intervened in our election and Trump obstructed justice," she said.
