The Hawkeyes' guard, Jordan Bohannon, will be operated on May 22 to shave his right hip and repair a laceration. Bohannon said that he was told that the recovery was between five and nine months, which put his 2019-20 season in jeopardy.

Jordan Bohannon has been playing with pain for two years. He does not want to do it again.

The Iowa three-point leader told the Des Moines Register on Tuesday that he was preparing for the possibility of missing the 2019-2020 season when he was recovering from a hip operation.

Bohannon's operation to shave his right hip and repair a laceration is scheduled for Wednesday at 7:00 am at the University of Iowa.

He was told that the recovery schedule was five to nine months. Bohannon said if he was not ready by the show season (late October / early November), he would probably opt for the redshirt and return as a fifth-year senior in 2020-21.

"I want to try, but I have suffered so much in recent years, I just want to take some time and find my body," Bohannon said. "Especially since I only have one year left, I want to make sure I get 100% early in the season for once."

Bohannon suffered a foot painful foot fasciitis throughout his second season.

His hip started to annoy him even before the start of his junior season. Bohannon was first injured in training before the first match of the show in Iowa. Marion's 6-foot-1 guard played in the 35-game Iowa 23-12 campaign, recording a number of heroic moments to help the Hawkeyes win their first trip to an NCAA tournament in three seasons.

As the season progressed, hip pain increased. Bohannon would receive pre-game injections to help him get through the games. One could see coach Brad Floy working on Bohannon's hip during breaks in action.

"I'm trying not to show much pain or emotion," Bohannon said. "But it was difficult last year."

He had a cortisone shot after Iowa lost to Tennessee at the NCAA tournament. But once that's gone, the hip does not feel better.

Bohannon consulted with the medical staff of the team and even got a second opinion from the medical team with the Chicago Blackhawks in the NHL. He planned to try to heal the wound and play it, but eventually opted for surgery.

"I actually wanted to wait," said Bohannon. "I did not want to be operated and see where I could go to cross the offseason."
