SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. (AP) – Besides packages, UPS promises to deliver something else fast: job postings.
The Sandy Springs-headquartered parcel delivery company said Thursday it plans to hire more than 100,000 people for peak holiday shipping season, many of whom will receive job offers within 30 minutes after their application.
UPS needs to recruit workers as quickly as possible due to the tight labor market. Competition for hourly workers is fierce, and many companies offer higher wages, signing bonuses, and even lower requirements, such as hiring people without a high school diploma.
The hiring is too long and a candidate can go elsewhere.
“Candidates want instant gratification,” said Matt Lavery, global director of procurement and recruitment for UPS. “We wanted to remove as many barriers as possible. “

The company said it reduced its hiring decisions to half an hour by asking applicants to submit all of their documents online and forgo interviews. Applicants could work as early as a day or two. Previously, it took up to two weeks with all the interview planning, according to Lavery.
UPS said it pays between $ 15 an hour and $ 22 an hour, depending on where the work is located in the country. In parts of the country, where it is more difficult to find workers, it offers bonuses that could increase the hourly rate, the company said.
