Marvel is releasing a hyper-violent trailer for Hit-Monkey, Hulu’s new animated series based on the obscure comic book character.
Hulu released Marvel’s first trailer Hit-Monkey.
The trailer doesn’t fire any punches as Hit-Monkey teams up with the ghost of an assassin to take down the Yakuza after his tribe is murdered.
Announced in 2019, Hit-Monkey is based on the character created by Daniel Way and Dalibor Talajic who debuted in the 2010s Hit-Monkey # 1. The show is co-created and produced by Josh Gordon and Will Speck, with Joe Quesada also serving as the EP. George Takei, Jason Sudeikis, Olivia Munn, Ally Maki, Nobi Nakanishi, and Fred Tatasciore all lend their voices to the series, and the official character breakdowns are below:
Shinji (voice of George Takei)
- A longtime public servant who was the man behind the political career of Ken Takahara, his friend and political mentor. But when tragedy strikes, it’s up to Shinji to take over and push his political dreams forward. A good and honest man who raised his niece Akiko on his own after the death of his parents. Shinji is the kind of politician everyone would like to have.
Bryce (voiced by Jason Sudeikis)
- A tired Assassin from the world who made some incredibly bad life choices. He drowns his grief in work, travel and play, but when it comes to making hits, there is no one better. After being killed in the Japanese Alps, Bryce’s ghost and Monkey are linked in a quest for revenge. A terrible mentor with a sarcastic and cynical view of the world, Bryce must ultimately dig deep into himself in order to complete his final mission and help Monkey become who he was meant to be.
Akiko (voice of Olivia Munn)
- Intelligent, ambitious and powerful, Akiko is the niece of Shinji Yokohama, the future Prime Minister of Japan. After spending time in the West for college and law school, she returned with strong opinions about the future of her uncle’s campaign. Her inherently good nature, however, masks a darker side, which will emerge as the season progresses.
Haruka (voiced by Ally Maki)
- An honest cop from a small town in the north, Haruka arrives in Tokyo with the dream of reforming a corrupt city. But can it keep its values in the face of so much vice? Her new partner Ito will test her sense of right and wrong and ultimately prove to be the mentor she has always been looking for. But when it falls to her to finish their case, will she have what it takes to become the cop she always thought she could be?
Ito (voice of Nobi Nakanishi)
- The laughing stock of the Tokyo Police Department and struggling with a drinking problem, Ito is the only one in Tokyo who suspects that Hit Monkey might actually be one of the good guys. But no one, not even his new partner Haruka, believes him. He will have to dig deep into his past, and face his demons in order to finally restore his honor.
Monkey (voiced by Fred Tatasciore)
- Monkey’s peaceful existence in the Japanese Alps is shattered by the tragic loss of his tribe, setting him on a path of revenge and violence in the very world of the humans who are responsible for his plight. He’s a killer killer with a little bit of a rage problem. Throughout the series, he must learn to navigate the struggle between his inherently gentle nature and the evil deeds he has to commit. It’s through his complicated friendship with the Ghost of Bryce (a former assassin and now, Monkey’s unwanted conscience), that will determine whether Monkey will be consumed by his rage or channel it for good. This is the story of Hit Monkey.
“You know I’m glad people can see Hit-Monkey, ” MODOK said showrunner Jordan Blum in May. “I’ve seen a bit of it, and it looks amazing. I was checking out on other shows because maybe I was going to. The delinquants if that ever happened. It was very cool. Everyone has to do their own thing. We haven’t changed anything on our show. But no, you know, I think you want to give the showrunners a little bit of freedom to sort of establish their characters and the voice of the shows and not worry too much about how it all fits together. It was going to be my burden. “
Hit-Monkey arrives on Hulu on November 17th.
